One of our most innovative rehabilitative programs is the Traffic Police Assistant Programme. This programme., initiated by ECHO in cooperation with the Dept. of Police, aims at metamorphosing juvenile delinquents and neglected children into responsible members of society. ECHO has trained more than 375 TPA's since the launch of the program in 2002. Children in the age group of 16 to 20 years are given intensive orientation and training in traffic rules and regulations, basic information of the city, first aid and community dynamics.
As Traffic Police Assistants the inmates gain dignity, respect and self-worth next to financial independence. Previously law breakers reformed as law enforcers!
January 26th 2006 was a milestone in the history of the TPA programme. Appreciating the work done by the TPA boys, the Govt. of Karnataka invited them to participate in the Republic Day's Parade in Bangalore. This was an exalted recognition to
our boys. Another special event in our TPA programme was the Capping Ceremony of the 7th batch of TPAs. For the first time in history the batch included also 12 girls from Children's Home to be trained as TPAs!
On 26th 2007 our 40 TPAs have part taken in the Republic day parade.
