ECHO is a non-government organisation working for the children in difficult circumstances in the city of Bangalore, India. Our main aim is to empower children in conflict with law and children in need of care and protection. ECHO believes that, with proper care, all children can grow into responsible and self-sufficient citizens of our society.
ECHO is a leading NGO in whole of India who initiated and now monitoring and helping implementation of Juvenile Justice Act 2000. We actively work at the following government institutions:
O H (Observation Home) – Detention Centre for children in conflict with law
J H (Juvenile Home) for Boys & Girls – for care and protection
JJB (Juvenile Justice Board)
CWC (Child Welfare Committee)
One of ECHO's most innovative rehabilitative programmes is the Traffic Police Assistant Programme. This programme aims at metamorphosing juvenile delinquents into responsible members of society. Earlier law breakers now become law enforcers. ECHO is extremely proud that the Traffic Police Assistants took part in the Republic Day Parade in 2006.
Follow-up Program:
The children we released and rehabilitated by ECHO are in close touch with the Organization. Twice in a year all the rehabilitated children and their parents come together for a follow-up program. Sharing and caring is aimed by this program.
JJ Act 2000 & SJPU (Special Juvenile Police Unit) :
ECHO has initiated SJPU in Karnataka.
ECHO gives training to the Police Departments, JJB Members, NGO’s, DWCD Members, Superintendents of Govt. Institutions, MSW students and teachers.
